President's Message

  

I, Karen Rabinovitch, have taken the post as the new president and the vice president is Karen Rose. We are known amongst our Galim Chapter Chaverot as "Karen Squared."

At our annual spring retreat, this year held in Whistler, we shared a lovely Kabbalat Shabbat. As always, the food was a communal effort and each year more creative and tasty. We went on an exhilarating hike and took in the fresh mountain air. Of course, our members enthusiastically brainstormed the programs that we would like to have for the upcoming year.

The women of Galim are known in the community for our Hamantashen Bake Sale. This past Rosh Hashanah marked our inaugural Apple and Honey Cake Bake Sale. For our first year, we hoped to sell at least 100 cakes; in fact more than 200 cakes were sold.

We were very pleased for a first year, especially as we were not sure whether to pursue this new fundraiser. I suppose our Galim Gals have found a wonderful niche as beautiful bakers. I couldn't be prouder of my team.

The Galim Chapter meets monthly for fun and interesting programming. New friends are always welcome to come share a laugh with us!

Hamentshen For Purim!
It's time for the Galim Chapter's annual Hamentashen Bake-a-Thon and this year, we are offering five yummy flavours: prune, poppy seed, chocolate, apricot and raspberry. Strictly Kosher (BCK) hamentashen are also available in all the above flavours, except for raspberry. These festive Purim treats are $20.00 per dozen with a $12.00 tax receipt. (Minimum order is one dozen, and can be split into two flavours.) Want to try all five flavours? Order a Variety Pack: 30 hamentashen for $50.00 with a tax receipt for $30.00. Proceeds from this sale will be directed to Na'amat social services in Israel. The Galim Chapter will also be donating hamentashen to Vancouver's Jewish Food Bank and other local organizations.     In a Moroccan Mood
    Our opening meeting in September 2010 was at the home of Leora Steif. The evening was inspired by a recent trip to Morocco for Cheryl Milner and her family. With the theme of Mystical Morocco, Leora's home was transformed into a rich Moroccan abode. Tablecloths and cushions were draped and scattered about, and the food was exotic to the sight and taste. Cheryl's Milner's presentation was viewed with delight and great interest.
